With the drop of “Dreamy Night,” the jangly, vibey and playfully grooving second single from Michael Lington’s new EP On the Scene, the Boys from “South Bay” are back! At the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024, over a quarter century into his storied, hit-filled career, the saxophonist’s smash “South Bay” became one of the longest running #1 songs (7 consecutive weeks) on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay chart. Creating fresh, infinitely fun and hip magic with the same team - co-writer Shane Theriot (keyboards, bass, guitars, drum programming) and co-writer mega-producer Paul Brown (lead guitar, percussion) - Lington is back again with a sonic adventure fusing his passionate trademark sax dynamics with an unstoppable pulsating drive. While “South Bay” strutted along with one of Brown’s classic straightforward electric guitar solos, here the versatile Grammy winner adds a different mystique to the track with an irresistible tremolo sound that feels, perfectly in line with the song title, like it breezed out of a sexy romantic dream. “Dreamy Night” follows on the heels of the recent chart success of the EP’s funk-driven title track “On the Scene.”
